Ghost of Christopher Wallace Live @ North Coast Fest

As you know, a lot of live hip-hop can be shitty and pretty underwhelming, but luckily that wasn’t the case yesterday with Jay, as he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand and turned some unsuspecting hippies into new fans. After proclaiming that he loved Chicago because he lived here for a year in 1997 (on Ashland and 55th), he went in to his fully energized and unique set. At one point Jay, who asked the crowd if they had any of that good green, invited the fans to join him on stage. Seconds later, 100 kids were scaling the pit wall to join Jay. Security wasn’t having it, but Jay wasn’t going to let security boot the fans without a fight. ”They’re with me, they’re with me” he screamed into the mic, and held the people behind his back, shooing away the North Coast guards. Finally security had their way and in the clip above you can see the super fans being escorted off stage.
Jay is an anomaly in hip-hop and truly a man of the people. I was already a fan prior to yesterday, but now I’m a true believer. This man is what hip-hop needs. Period.
